Learn how to use the open source PhoneGap framework to build cross-platform hybrid applications (native mobile applications that are built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) for mobile devices. The application will get its data from a Domino database using a RESTful Web service.


Continuing with this series of articles on mobile development for IBM Lotus Domino takes us to PhoneGap, one of several cross-platform mobile development frameworks available today. PhoneGap is used to build hybrid mobile applications — native mobile applications where the application’s screens, navigation and logic are built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
PhoneGap is important because it allows you to build cross-platform mobile applications using the Web skills that you and others in your organization likely already have, instead of forcing you to learn the individual software development kits (SDKs) for each mobile device platform you are targeting for your applications. I’ll introduce you to PhoneGap and show you what you need to know to create PhoneGap applications that enable users to access your Domino data and applications.
