Learn two methods for changing the native button labels in Notes dialog boxes, picklists, prompts, and spellcheckers. Explore the downloadable database of examples and get an external program you can call from these elements to change the button labels (for example, from “OK” to “Yes”).

Dialog boxes, picklists, and prompts — they’re easy for developers to use, and most Notes applications can’t do without them. There’s just one problem: There is no built-in way to change the button labels in these elements to anything other than what IBM Lotus has provided. In some cases, however, changing a button from “OK” to “Yes” or from “Cancel” to “No” can be exactly what you need to do in your application. I will show you two different ways you can get the job done:
  1. By using a script library in forms or subforms (for dialog boxes) and in views or folders (for picklists)
  2. By passing arguments to an external stand-alone program that is called immediately before the application displays the dialog box, picklist, prompt, or spellchecker
I’ll explain the implications of using each method and how to know which method to use to best suit your needs.
Note!
All of the code for the solutions I share in this article, including the external program provided for download, is for use in a Win32 environment only.
