Users just love getting their data in Excel spreadsheets, so one very frequent question for the Domino developer is, “How can I code a Notes and Domino view export to Excel?” There’s extensive information available on how to do this using LotusScript, but it’s not that easy to answer the question if you’re building Web applications with Domino XPages.
The biggest hurdle in exporting Domino data to Excel is the Excel-specific XLS format. It is proprietary and closed and, as a result, writing a file in this format requires a huge effort. But there’s a shortcut I’ll show you that makes it easy and quick. Best of all, the solution is reusable, thanks to the Custom Controls feature of XPages.
